Research in development for site specific public sculpture
The artist has been working closely with engineers and hydrologists at the Cavitation Research Laboratory at the Australian Marine College in Launceston, with the aim of producing a negative cubed space below the surface of the water. This project has been developed to be installed in an open water site.
The geometric inversion sets up a conversation around the forces connected with the river and its uses, from the hydrodynamic to the psychological, the industrial to the cultural. The sculpture is propositional, it acts as an abstract measuring device, exploring the possibilities and limits of measuring the river physically and perceptually.
