SALT WEDGE
Site-responsive public sculpture commission
9m x 2.8m x .14m(depth)
Low relief white concrete sculpture, cast in-situ
[ADA] Consulting, JAM Architects, Port Melbourne 2023
Salt Wedge gives form to an illusive river mouth phenomena, where the intersection of salt water and fresh water create a physical wedge dividing the two water bodies. Salt Wedge magnifies the lateral interface where the weight and density of surging ocean tide collides with, and pushes under the less dense freshwater flow in an on-going dialogue of force and hydrodynamic dance. This low relief sculpture was generated from an in-situ work on paper made at the Birrarung (Yarra River), drawing on the opposition between invisible and apparent forces at the site and those acting on perception.
