Salt Drawing Lake
Art Gallery of South Australia 2007
Tract, video installation, RMIT Gallery, Melbourne 2008
Single channel video
Conceptual land-art work with light aircraft across the centre of Lake Frome, a dry salt lake in the Flinders Ranges South Australia.
The video drawing was based on the direction of an orbital arc of the EO-1, the first of NASA's Millenium Program Earth Observing series of satellites. Hyperion is an experimental hyperspectral sensor carried on EO-1. Lake Frome was chosen primarily because it is the brightness area viewable on earth, but also for its expected temporal invariance in the thickness of the salt crust that alters the surface characteristics providing a range of spectral characteristics.
