In Greek mythology Prometheus the god of fire was
one of the Titans, who defied the Olympian gods by
taking The Eternal Flame from them and gave it to
humanity in the form of technology, knowledge,
human arts and, more generally, civilization.
Prometheus artwork is site-specific, creating a
direct conversation between this Greek Myth and the
‘The Flame of Eternity’ at the Shrine of Remembrance,
across the road in the Royal Botanic Gardens, which
was first lit in 1954.
